Roatán is located in the Western Caribbean and is the largest island of the "Bay Islands". It’s ~40 miles off the northern coast of Honduras and formed by the Bonacca Ridge, which is an underwater mountain range. The island is ~35 miles miles long, 3 miles wide and has annual temperatures with highs of 89.6°F (32°C) and lows of 77°F (25°C) - Current Weather. The Bonacca Ridge is responsible for the formation of several small islands and Keys in the surrounding areas including the Island of Utila and Guanaja. Also, Roatán is located ~100 miles east of Belize.
It's a little over a 2 hour direct flight from Houston, on United, or Miami, on American, and a little over 3 hours direct flights from Dallas, on American, and Atlanta, on Delta. You can also fly through Belize City and take a short flight on Tropic Air or through San Pedro Sula and take a short flight on CM Airlines, TAG Airlines, Hanh Air or Avianca.
Añoranza is located on the quiet, North Eastern coast of Roatán and is a 40 minute, scenic drive from the Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport along the main road that runs the ridge of the island and boasts amazing views of both the south and north shores. We can arrange a private van for $30 a person each way but, we recommend renting a SUV from our local rental partner or, Avis and Thrifty at the airport, so you can explore the island. If you book through Avis we will send you an 10% OFF Discount code. Our Property Manager, Matt or our Customer Experience Manager, Dalia can even meet you at the airport for an additional charge. Many of our guests like this option because they can be your tour guide as you stop for lunch and then groceries on the way to Añoranza.
20 minutes into your drive east, you will go through French Harbor, one of the oldest communities in Roatán and a commercial hub of the island. The Black Pearl, an 18 hole Pete Dye designed golf course is located in French Harbor at Pristine Bay Resort. Little French Key and Big French Key, guest favorites, are a 5-minute boat ride from French Harbor. Also, Cemesa Hospital, which takes U.S. insurance, is located here as well as Eldon's Supermarket and Ace Hardware. We recommend stopping here for groceries and any other supplies you may need before continuing east to Añoranza.
Añoranza is just east of the Garifuna town of Punta Gorda filled with rich traditions and amazing Garifuna cuisine. Right before you get to Punta Gorda there will be a gravel road, Diamond Rock Road, on your right with signs to Camp Bay Beach. Take it for less than a mile until you will see the sign for Punta Blanca, a small community, on the left. Once you are in Punta Blanca, continue on Punta Blanca Road following the signs to Añoranza. Yes, Google Maps - Añoranza Roatan can get you to Punta Blanca too.
Finally, as of May 2024, in a move to a paperless environment, the Honduran Customs Declaration Form must be completed electronically. Paper copies are no longer available or accepted. Use the QR Code on this page to access the form.
Many times the airport internet is not working so if you do not have cellular service we would recommend completing the form before arrival. The form is one per family. There is a dropdown menu to select “English” or “Spanish”. Please have your electronic copy with QR code available for the customs agent to scan. It must be completed within 5 days of entry or departure.
